I came across this forum in my search for a router problem I’m having, perhaps someone feels like helping me out a bit.
I have two personal computers, a ps3 and a wii all connected (by wire) on the same router.
The router is a sitecom wireless network broadband router 54g turbo wl-173.
The modem I have is a Motorola SB5100E SURFboard cable modem.
Now, when I connect all the things individually to the modem, they all work fine. However, when they are all connected to the router several problems arise:
- The wii doesn’t support online gaming (as far as I can tell). If I want to play Mariokart, it starts searching for other players, but times out after a while and displays the message: “disconnected from network during data transmission, error code 86420”.
Other online functions do work though, like the weather channel or the internet browser.
-The ps3 doesn’t support online gaming either (or not fully). Team Fortress 2 seems to work fine, but GTA IV has problems. I can pick a quick match of Single Player Deathmatch for instance. I enter some kind of waiting room where other players drop in until the game starts.. when this happens however I get kicked out.
-I don’t play online games with my computer, but all the other stuff works fine. Email, Internet browsing.. not a problem. Sometimes one of the computer can’t connect to the internet though. I think it’s always when the computer was switched on for the first time and tries to establish contact with the net for the first time.
When I manually reset the modem & router it usually solves the problem though.
I’m not much of a computer specialist, but I kinda deduced that the problem must be the router, ‘cause when I hook up all the stuff individually to the modem I don’t get these problems. So I tried to look up information about routers, and came across this thing called portforwarding. Figuring this might help me out I started by creating a static IP adress on PC no. 1

The others are:

The IP adress of the router is: 192.168.0.1
With the help of http://www.portforward.com/ I forwarded the ports for the Playstation Network to see if it would solve my PS3 problems.

This didn’t work though, so I switched off the router firewall and the XP firewall of PC no. 1, again to no avail.
Okay, quite a story (prolly lost most of you here^^), but am I on the right trail or should I look into something else altogether?
Thanx,
R.
