Hello,

I recently inserted my 4 GB GenX pendrive into my computer and it got stuck. It showed 0 bytes of memory and could not be opened. I then removed it from the computer and took it to my laptop. When inserted here it showed that the pendrive was not formatted. When I clicked yes in the 'do you want to format it box' and tried to format it, it said that windows was unable to complete the format. I dont mind losing the data in it but need the pendrive to work.

Can anyone help me please.

Thanx.....

Hello,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that, but a window appears which says "Windows was unable to complete the format".

Hi buddy,

This is very similar problem which i got with my external harddisk.

Try formatting it in linux environment.

No need to install linux operating system. You can find CD supported linux operating systems through which you can solve the problem...

Hope this helps you.... :)

I had a problem after my memory-stick was formatted by RedHat 5.4. Not able to access the stick using Windows Vista, not able to format, also not when using diskmanager.
I searched the internet for a lowlevelformat-tool. This tool was able to lowlevelformat the stick. After it finished, I had to format using Windows and the stick worked again.
Used tool: http://hddguru.com/

I have this same problem, and would just like to run through the solutions already suggested above and ask if anyone has any other ideas please?
Firstly, it is only by trying the right click on My Computer and quick format option that anyone with this problem discovers they have it, so unfortunately that isn't going to solve it.
I'm not sure about the Linux environment suggestion because I don't really understand how to try that - I don't have a cd and sadly don't know anyone else who has one.
Formatter.exe can be found by typing it into google. It is actually the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool, and when run it looks very similar to the Windows format. On mine it says that the disk is copy writed, and it doesn't offer any options to overcome this.
When running the hddguru low level format, for every file it says there is a format error. At the end it says its completed, but I still could not format the memory stick.
There is something else called 9.1.1exe (just google it) which apparently has worked for some but for others like me it cannot even find the memory stick, even though windows can.

I have 2 memory sticks with this problem, and a third which works fine. I can see all the files (jpgs) with no problem, I just can't delete them or format the drives. Has anyone got any fresh ideas please?

Thanks

Rob
