Hey there,

Ok, I'm a the opposite of computer savvy! Here's the problem:

I have a Mac OSX 10.4.11. I want to upgrade my OS to a 10.5.7, for gaming purposes. I have the Install DVD for Mac OS X Leopard 10.5. Now here's where I'm getting all dumb. I have a broken LED screen on my laptop, hence the necessity for the external monitor. When I press the restart button to begin the install, the computer restarts and shows the install on my laptop monitor, leaving me unable to view the actual install process. I am unable to switch the view to my external monitor, leaving me unable to see the install to even install the upgrade. Can anyone help me get it to view on my external monitor so I can upgrade? Thanks sooooo much! I'd really appreciate the help! Have a good one!

Best,
K

Configuration: Mac OS X
Safari 530.17

Ok, so i did some research on this cause i was interested and i also want to install leopard but not with an external monitor.

I do not take any credit for this! I looked at other forums such as the actual apple forums just like you could have. But oh well. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1413983 <----Here is where i found the topic

Anyway lets get to the fixen.

What you want to do is get everything set up for the install. You can have the disk in the drive so it is ready to rock as soon as you start. Have the external display hooked up. Turn off your MacBook. Now hit the on switch. As soon as you do close the display on the MacBook this will force the MacBook to use the external display as the main Monitor. Now do your install. You can open the MacBook and the internal display will stay off and the external will continue being the main monitor. This will allow use of the keyboard if you don't have an external one.

There you go. I hope this helps you. And once again i do not take any credit for this. It was First Magus who figured this one out!
