Connecting my Laptop to my TV

Hello,
I just purchased a new cable, One end is a USB cord & the other end has the red, yellow, & white adapters on it . I plugged one end to my laptop & the other 3 cables into my TV. How come I cannot get a picture on my TV. I have a Toshiba laptop & the TV is Sony. Please help. I tried to go into display, nothing when i put my TV on Video I just hear a buzzing noise.

Hi,

you should connect your laptop to your television by using VGA cable (the blue socket) or you may also use a Super Video cable (see the yellow connector on your laptop).

then you can use the headphone RCA jack to connect the sound to your system.
