Hello,
My system is an hp xt983 purchased in 2002.
I had a problem a few month ago with it sticking at the hp logo. It started working fine after that, I went to burn a cd and it said burner not found. I leave the computer on all the time due to it is the gate way for my laptop. I hit a few buttons on my keyboard last week on accident and it made a lot of beeping noise. I left and came back home a few hours later and I smelled something hot and I unplugged my computer. I cleaned out all of the dust and plugged it back in and the screen will not show a pic. it is black and the power button on it is green for a second and it then turns yellow. the modem or computer itself will turn on it just will not boot up. I get a green light on the front of the tower at the power button and a green light at the back of the computer where the plug is connected. Sometimes the cd-writer light comes on for a second and goes off. It will not play, run any disk. Some times the cd door will open and close when you want it to and sometimes it will not. the flopy drive light does not come on. I hooked up my ipod to the usb port and it acts like it is getting power, It turns it on in other words it will not charge.I can not get anything on the monitor, the keyboard lights come on for a brief second during start up of the tower. The fans come on and seem to be working. I had opened it up and checked for bad spots on the mother board, and ram card. It was clean, I took out the hard drive, and the video card and they seem to look fine, I am clueless, could this be a problem with my bios? I let my kids play on it a few months back befor i started having all of these problems and think they might have ereased something. soon after I could not find my cd-writer plus in my system and it said my samsung sv4002h was working properly. any help would be appreciated...
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

I heard of things like this before and the problem could be anything. Your Hard drive should be fine, If you have another computer you can plug it up to it and get the data off or you could buy a USB HDD enclosure kit so you can plug it up to your laptop. It sounds like your processor or Video card could of burnt out but I can't be 100% sure. If someone deleted a program off of it I think it would at least show the BIOS. You could unplug your computer, Take the battery out then reset your COMS. It might tell you how in your manual or you might need to call them. I hope all goes well.

hi i have a simular problem like that but it was cause after i inserted an mp3 in to my compaq laptop, it said it had to install the drivers which it di then it said that the USB device has malfunction or it not working, so i took it out. and then like couple of hours later when i turned back on the laptop it said windows fail to load properly and ask me if to load windows normally or load from last know working settings. i chose the first one it went to the logo and then theses lines appeared out of no where and would not go any further, Ctrl + Alt+ Delete does not work so i tried it with the other one and it did the same thing what could e the problem? a virus?

Turns out that the ram was no more good, it just fried. Make sure when u put in new ram that it is compatible ( that was most likely my problem) with the system. Also helped when I removed the battery from the motherboard. Once that was done I hooked it back up, but then got a message saying there was a problem in the cmos, then after rebooting, again no pic on monitor, but long beep, pause, long beep ect...so now I have something new to try and figure out.

Sounds like the power supply to me. Sometimes they will do that. You may be getting voltage to the cd rom and floppy but not to the board, causing it to not post. Try swapping it with a know good one. 99 percent of all computer breakdowns is the power supply. Good luck.

Hie good people, jump start your computers.

i use an IBM Thinkpad 600E it wont boot just shows black screen

To jump start it i press Esc button as soon as i turn it on, hold it until something happens can take 20 sec or more and may take more than 1 attempt.
sometimes if Esc fails i restart and press F1 or F2 buttons then hold it. When it starts i follow the instructions it gives.

I think its a problem with one of the following Ram, Rom, systemboard or Bios

hope it helps, tell me if it does.......

Same problem for me. I turn on the computer, fans are running, but the monitor just displays "no signal". The monitor works for sure, i am using the same monitor right now to post this message. This happened before. I installed a wirless B PCI adapter and then the comptuer started doing this. After removing the wireless card, the computer booted. 30 minutes later I installed a new gefocre 8600 i just bought. When i hit the power button, same thing happens, nothing displays on my screen. I just tried to take the new graphics card out, and it still wont start...

I have an HP V6205 nr bought it in 07 february actually, it does the not loading the bios I am decent with fixing computers I have never encountered a problem like this before it seems to just be HP products in the future i am not gonna purchase another product from hp it seems they have faulty hardware I have tried pretty much everything i believe i might have to send it into HP to get it to work i have taken everything out and booted every single way nothing comes up just black screen It's rather ridiculous because it's a year old has no water or fall damage or anything like that just quit working the other day. I hope someone finds a fix
