Hey

to get any driver for hp notebook, go to the hp.ca website...go down to driver and software download, type in the product number for ur nb, then it'll ask you for the type of operatin system u have, select ur os and then it'll take you to a page wid all the drivers for ur notebook type..if its listed on that page then its there....otherwise do not download it from any other site, cause it just wont work!

Hey Mathavan, your question is really simple to answer dude...
First off, get your "Start Menu" open.
Next, go to "Settings" then Click on "Control Panel".
Once in "Control Panel", click on "Administrative Tools".
When it opens click on "Computer Management".
"Computer Management" opens up, on your left-hand side, there's a column, on the column go down to "Disk Management" and double-click on it.
It should show your drives, and partitions.
If you have 2 or more drives, try to move all of your data onto your "C-Drive (C:)".
After that is finished up, message me back, with you what you have found (# of drives and amount of space on each) and i'll take you through the rest. -o2v

Hey

dv6's have a problem wid their motherboards so the worst thing u can possibly do wid them is to downgrade to xp cause all the xp drivers are becomin obselete and hp is takin it off from their site, so my suggestion is not to downgrade to xp. Plus, ur wireless and sound card will most likely stop workin after u downgrade.....im just not sayin that...ive worked as a tech supprt agent for hp notebook and have dealt wid these problems all the time.....DO not downgrade, it'll mess up everything.....

Same thing has just happened to me today. I was up using wireless yesterday. Hibernated the laptop. Turned it on this afternoon and no wireless. I can't even setup a new wireless wireless connection in vista under "Setup a connection or Network" . It just gives me the option for dial-up and Broadband (PPPoE). Same problem with the light too, it just stays orange, or red, whatever it is.

I believe windows downloaded some updates and installed, because when I shutdown the laptop to reboot today, it had to install some updates.

Has anyone figured out how to fix yet.

I found the issue...well, there is a known issue. There was an article posted lower in this page about an HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement for the United Kingdom and a few of their HP Pavilion models. Well I found the page for the U.S. and it is here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/...

I reloaded WLAN drivers, then flashed the BIOS with the latest and greatest from here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/...

This did not fix the problem.

I called the number listed on the first page (first link above) and they had me pop out the battery and then plug in the power and boot up, then entered the BIOS to set it back to default settings, then booted up and logged in to check the Device Manager to see if I could see the wireless card (broadcom), which of course it did not have it listed. Turns out it is a motherboard issue...knew it was hardware. They then processed the mail-in package. It should arrive in 1-2 days, and then I call the carrier that has been prepaid for this shipment, and they say it should take 7-9 days to do the repair once received. So hopefully in a couple weeks I'll have this back and working.

I do need to back up all my data as they end up wiping and restoring it back to its default after the new mobo install.

Hope this helps anyone else having this issue.

I was searching for info on my wifes computer (ie: wireless problem) and found this site.
Thanks for the info on this extended coverage. I have an older (2 yrs) dv600 that HP said the mother board had to be replaced and it was out of warrenty. After reading your post, I called them.
I just got off the phone with HP and they initialy said the same thing (not covered). After I quoted their own web site and raised my voice a bit, they are sending me a return box. Lets see if they fix it for free.
If they fix the first one, I will send out the second one for repairs.

Shut down your laptop.

Remove the battery.
Now, press POWER button for 30 seconds.
Put the battery back.

Odds are the drivers won't help you. Do a little more research. Just google hp dv6000 wireless and you'll see a bunch of explanations why your card isn't working. It happened to me as well. Apparently 1 in 7 of this type of computer have wireless issues and the problem is the motherboard, which needs replacing. If the drivers don't work for you, and you're not still under warranty, I suggest just buying a USB wireless adapter to fix your issue. That's what I did and it's working fine now.

BTW-expect more issues... This computer is not the best...

Hi, Help!! My HP6000 starting acting weird last night by saying that I don't have a wireless network set up ( I do and the other PCs work fine in the house), then in the night it was saying that I needed to install some updates ( I am an excelllent RN not software/hardware person so unsure as to what updates it said) but I clicked on it then it said updates were unsuccussfull then today, it will not even turn on: Well you can hear it trying to boot up and some lights are on but the screen is black and the monitor appears to be not working at all. Any thoughts on any of these above ramblings? Any help would be appreciated! ( uniit is approx 14 months old).

Daisy, hit escape and run bios diagnostics scan. if it goes ok then either f11 during boot then restore..recovery console chkdsk before that if possible. if totally black screen vga mode in bios menu may allow u to see enough to restore..good luck

I had the same problem with my computer... What happend was during a storm my power stip broke for my sound and for my power on my laptop... I pulled the keyboard out and pulled the strips out the one on the left is the power and the one on the right is the sound and other stuff.. I pulled them both out cause they were broke and started messing with it since i thought my comp was shot anyways and decided to take a razor blade and run it over the power hub and my comp started up.. I was pretty excited cause I couldnt get it to start up but then my screen was black and it wouldnt boot up.. It sounded like to computer was booting up and then restarting over and over again.. So eventuallly I turned it on by running the razor blade on the first hub(on the left) and as soon as it turned on i ran it on the other hub(the one on the right) and it booted right up. So from personal expirence if your power button works then that power strip is fine but most likely the one on the right is shot and its causeing the computer not to boot up.

I have the hpdv6000. i went on hp site downloaded the updates for the drivers. then i did vista updates only the firs set after a initial recovery. the network card worked fine. after the second set of updates it stooped working. i did a recover to the first set and it worked again. it has to be a software proble not hardware. HP is bs. This isnt the firt time they let me down but it will be the last.

I also have a HP dv6000. 2 days before the warranty expired, my laptop would come on, lights all there, could hear the hummm but the screen was black. I also had a fine white line across the screen (when it did work). I called them and mailed the computer back. They replaced the motherboard which brought the computer and screen back to life. Then I mailed it back AGAIN to have the screen replaced so that little white line would go away. After about a week my wireless "blue" light is orange and won't change. I'm going to try some of the fixes I've read on here, hopefully I can repair it myself since my warranty is now gone. If not, I will plug in a wireless device and keep going until the whole thing self destructs! I like the laptop but after reading everything in these posts, I'm convinced that we all made a bad decision to purchase this particular laptop.

Hp laptops with AMD cpus have a over heating defect that causes eventual death of the motherboard
buying a usb wifi adapter only prolongs the usefulness of the lappy
after the wifi goes expect the motherboard to also die in a few weeks to a few months
i have 2 dv2000s and they both have experienced this problem
hp does know about the issue and has extended the warranty to 2 years after the first symptom, usually the wifi card dying
they may be difficult when issuing the RMA but if you insist everything should be free - including next day shipping back and forth
good luck, and i am never buying a HP product again

don't forget to keep regular backups after that wifi card dies, because you now own a time bomb

Hi

READ THIS: http://www.ilovebonnie.net/...

the drivers can be found at
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers
if you bought in the USA

to find your exact product name look on the bottom of the laptop close to where the windows "key" sticker is and you should see a sticker that HP put there.
should say:
product: hp pavilion dv2000
s/n: ###########
p/n: ###########

service tag dv2120us

notice that i have a dv2000 but the actual model is dv2120us
find this number and you should find the drivers
if not please post this number or i can't help you

and finally read through this page from HP to determine if you're part of the extended warranty (factory recall for horribly defective HP products that can't be found by searching HP's website (wonder why?)) if you qualify to have your laptop replaced, backup your data, send it away, and when it is returned; sell it as fast as you can! it WILL die again. mine did

good luck

jman

I have a DV6000. My wireless stoped working several months ago. I recently got an update from HP saying that I may qualify for a free repair because there has been a recall on all DV6000 types. My wireless internet does not work no matter what drivers I update it with. I called HP, and thats when they told me I qualified for a free repair because the model had a defective motherboard. Eventually your wireless adaptors stop working. I did not want to fight with adding on extra peices to my laptop when it should work properly no matter where I go. I called. We trouble shooted several different ways, then they finally said they would send me a shipping label to fix it. It does not matter if your warranty is expired, if you have a DV6000, you may qualify for a free repair-wich is a new motherboard. There has been a recall on this type of computer. I am shocked more effort has not been put in to alert the customers about this. Hope this helps. Next time, I am buying a MAC. You have no idea how many issues I have had with windows operating systems that required me to start my pc over from scratch. It is becomming annoying, and quit costly. I would rather fork out the extra money and forfiet all the other problems that come with these kinds of laptops!

Nice to hear about the warranty upgrade on the dv6000, i've been working on the wireless not working for about 2 wks now. i thought perhaps i opened something bad that shut it down, but good to hear i'm having similar problems with the HP as others. so it's the comp not the sites...thanks

DV6258se - Wireless stopped working and after trying to troubleshoot the problem I contacted HP's online chat support. The tech had me install latest drivers(again) then determined the problem was the ongoing issue with the wireless card. Long story short, the laptop is being repaired or replaced as we speak will update once resolved.

Sorry, i responded to the wrong query... take your battery out for 10-20 minutes for the computer to reset...
place the battery back in and power up with cord.. your pav. 6000 should work

Since your computer is able to work in an external monitor that that means the graphics card is good. so IMO you have to replace the widescreen on your notebook.

Hi. I was experiencing problems with my Hp dv6000 and i fixed the problem myself. Go to HP Total Care Advisor and go through PC Update and comb through each item and download updates. I somehow found the wireless assistant update and poof!!! it worked and i'm online wirelessly again!
This was so frustrating so I just had to let you guys know, I was working on this for a week and even contacted Hp support and they wanted to replace my mother board and i was determined to fix the problem.
I hope it works for all of you.

I just had the same problem with my wife's HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop.

It was working fine, then just stopped recognizing the wireless card. My daughter had been using it, so I was in doubt as to what had/hadn't been done to it software-wise (virus?). So I ran the complete recover to restore everything to the state when it was new.

Still can't recognize the wireless. The indicator light stays orange no matter which position the switch is in.

So I google "HP dv6000" looking for a manual, and the FIRST thing I find is a Recall notice http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01087277 Yeah, I know, they're covering their butts by calling it a "Limited Warranty Service Enhancement" but they basically know that these machines were defective from the date of manufacture. They told me that my machine didn't qualify for the free service because it was 9 months past the warranty extension and tried to get me to shell out $250 for a new mother board.

Some people said it was fixed by just using an external wireless card solution, but the same folks said that the MB went bad next.

I'll try your driver solution, but am definitely ticked off to know that HP is selling these machines KNOWING that they have this problem and don't want to do the right thing to fix it.

I've owned a bunch of HP computers (have four of them working in the house right now) but I'll probably be looking at Dell next time around.

BTW: When I spoke to HP's tech support and asked to a manager, I got put on hold for about an hour. Then was told that I should leave my number and a manager would call me during the week. I've been home all week and NOBODY from HP has called.

I went ahead and ordered a USB wireless network card (only $15) and am going to see if that solves the problem for now. For what HP wants to service the motherboard on a machine that they KNOW went out the door defective, it just doesn't make sense. I'll save the $250 and put it towards a new computer (from a DIFFERENT manufacturer).

I've owned a bunch of HP products (2 desktops and 2 laptops plus a couple printers in the house right now) but after this experience, I plan to STOP buying ANYTHING HP!

I have this same model DV6000 laptop and not only does the wireless network adapter fail to be recognized but it will not boot up to the HP screen at times causing me to reboot several times. The problem is the MoBo and HP knew this which is why they have placed an extended limited warranty on it.Of course I'm 3 months out of warranty so they want to charge $260 for a repair of something they knew was going to fail. I will notify all 953 clients of mine in addition to my friends and family never to purchase from such a dishonest, unscrupulous company that has forgotten the meaning of customer service. A Public relations blunder is all they have achieved in trying to resolve any of my issues.

After hours of trial and error i came up 2 a possible solution….(85%will work, and 15% wont)..
i think u people are having problems like your hpdv6000 dosen’t detects your inbuilt wifi hardware and acts as if there wasn’t a wireless card installed in a motherboard, if thats the case then try this:
first you will need to heat up ur system chipset, this can be achieved by running a graphic intensive game like call of duty 4 or any similar hardware demanding game that will utilise ur hardware and eventually raise the motherboard’s temp. after playing the game for 45mins…quickly exit the game and get back to your desktop. As soon as u get to ur desktop, close the lid of ur laptop and let it go into standby mode. after 20-25 seconds quickly open ur lid again and watch ur wifi detected.
please give ur feedback
thx
