to get any driver for hp notebook, go to the hp.ca website...go down to driver and software download, type in the product number for ur nb, then it'll ask you for the type of operatin system u have, select ur os and then it'll take you to a page wid all the drivers for ur notebook type..if its listed on that page then its there....otherwise do not download it from any other site, cause it just wont work! | 37 mathavan, on Oct 1, 2008 8:54:19 pm BSTHi Amaan,
I have hp pavilion dv 6000 laptop which came with vista loaded on it. I want to make a partition, so that I can load XP. Could you please let me know, how I can do it.
Thanks,
Mathavan Reply to mathavan | 129 oNe 2 vAs, on Aug 18, 2009 7:05:24 am BSTHey Mathavan, your question is really simple to answer dude...
First off, get your "Start Menu" open.
Next, go to "Settings" then Click on "Control Panel".
Once in "Control Panel", click on "Administrative Tools".
When it opens click on "Computer Management".
"Computer Management" opens up, on your left-hand side, there's a column, on the column go down to "Disk Management" and double-click on it.
It should show your drives, and partitions.
If you have 2 or more drives, try to move all of your data onto your "C-Drive (C:)".
After that is finished up, message me back, with you what you have found (# of drives and amount of space on each) and i'll take you through the rest. -o2v Reply to oNe 2 vAs |

dv6's have a problem wid their motherboards so the worst thing u can possibly do wid them is to downgrade to xp cause all the xp drivers are becomin obselete and hp is takin it off from their site, so my suggestion is not to downgrade to xp. Plus, ur wireless and sound card will most likely stop workin after u downgrade.....im just not sayin that...ive worked as a tech supprt agent for hp notebook and have dealt wid these problems all the time.....DO not downgrade, it'll mess up everything..... Reply to sankd909 | 59 HACKYSACK, on Dec 5, 2008 7:19:31 pm GMTMy laptop is doing the same thing. Have you gotten an answer yet
sh. Reply to HACKYSACK | 60 merc, on Dec 8, 2008 12:55:20 am GMTSame thing has just happened to me today. I was up using wireless yesterday. Hibernated the laptop. Turned it on this afternoon and no wireless. I can't even setup a new wireless wireless connection in vista under "Setup a connection or Network" . It just gives me the option for dial-up and Broadband (PPPoE). Same problem with the light too, it just stays orange, or red, whatever it is.
I believe windows downloaded some updates and installed, because when I shutdown the laptop to reboot today, it had to install some updates.
Has anyone figured out how to fix yet. Reply to merc | 61 merc, on Dec 9, 2008 2:31:02 am GMTI found the issue...well, there is a known issue. There was an article posted lower in this page about an HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement for the United Kingdom and a few of their HP Pavilion models. Well I found the page for the U.S. and it is here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/...
I reloaded WLAN drivers, then flashed the BIOS with the latest and greatest from here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/...
This did not fix the problem.
I called the number listed on the first page (first link above) and they had me pop out the battery and then plug in the power and boot up, then entered the BIOS to set it back to default settings, then booted up and logged in to check the Device Manager to see if I could see the wireless card (broadcom), which of course it did not have it listed. Turns out it is a motherboard issue...knew it was hardware. They then processed the mail-in package. It should arrive in 1-2 days, and then I call the carrier that has been prepaid for this shipment, and they say it should take 7-9 days to do the repair once received. So hopefully in a couple weeks I'll have this back and working.
I do need to back up all my data as they end up wiping and restoring it back to its default after the new mobo install.
Hope this helps anyone else having this issue. Reply to merc | 66 RonKlimo, on Dec 25, 2008 6:37:56 pm GMTI was searching for info on my wifes computer (ie: wireless problem) and found this site.
Thanks for the info on this extended coverage. I have an older (2 yrs) dv600 that HP said the mother board had to be replaced and it was out of warrenty. After reading your post, I called them.
I just got off the phone with HP and they initialy said the same thing (not covered). After I quoted their own web site and raised my voice a bit, they are sending me a return box. Lets see if they fix it for free.
If they fix the first one, I will send out the second one for repairs. Reply to RonKlimo | 76 fili, on Jan 17, 2009 1:42:21 pm GMTHi, did they eventually sort out the problem with ur hp laptop? Reply to fili | 112 merc, on Jun 6, 2009 3:15:14 am BSTYes, HP swapped out the mobo and I received the laptop back in about 1 week...very fast. It has been working fine since Dec. Reply to merc |

I fixed it in 2 min after uninstalling the wi-fi card in device manager then searching for changes and letting it reinstall itself and instantly fixed! Reply to evandevon | 83 McGyver's retarded cousin, on Feb 4, 2009 6:15:51 pm GMTUnfortunately this method didn't work for me. I think I'm going to opt. for the USB wireless adapter.
