Hi, I have just purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop loaded with Vista Premium. The main purpose is to play my media files to TV. I have 3 TVs all LG. When I plug the HDMI cable V1.3 from laptop to the TVs LG 42LC2D-AA and 47LY3DE-AA, shows the picture but no audio. On the laptop under Sounds, Playback Devices, it either don't show HDMI device or says it is not plugged in.

The other TV, LG 50PX4RA-TA is able to detect the HDMI and shows under laptop Sounds Device Playback when I connect and plays picture and audio fine on TV. It automatically switches back to laptop speakers when cable is pulled out. That's should be the way it works.

BTW, I have a Western Digital Media Player and plugging to hdmi works fine for all 3 TVs.

So I am thinking there is not a problem with laptop vista and hdmi driver, cable is working. So what is wrong with the hdmi ports on those 2 LGs TV? I tried to play with TV audio settings but no luck. So can someone please give me a solution.

Thanks, Phil

Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

If you left click that "mixer" icon in your system tray (bottom of viewing area), you see playback devices. Click on that. You MUST change the default to HDMI. simply clicking will not do it. Once the check mark shows HDMI as your default audio source, sound will come through your TV.

NOW, can someone help me: what about video? I was able to see both my laptop screen and the TV. After installing the most current Vista upgrades, when I plug in the HDMI cable, it's cutting off my laptop screen. I need both -- close up for searching and finding things. TV for final display.

I am also having similar problems with my laptop. Some research has led me to discover that the Samsung TV that I purchased only supports PCM audio signals, not Bitstream (like Dolby AC3, DTS, etc).

If you have set HDMI / SPDIF as the default sound output on your PC and you're still not getting any sound, access the sound menu of your TV, then set it to recieve a Bitstream signal (Dolby rather than LPCM). This might not be supported on all sets - my Samsung can only handle LPCM signals whereas my LG can work with both Dolby and LPCM....
