Black screen that says windows error recovery

Hello,
when i turn on my computer its has a black screen that says windows error recovery.it tells me to choose one of the following safe mode,start windows normally etc. but when i do choose one the screen just stays black. i have windows vista

The Windows files are damaged. If you can't boot into safe mode can you boot with the Windows Vista DVD? The DVD has a repair option that might work to resolve your problem.
