Portable cd r/w dvd Rom doesn't read data or

Hello,
My Portable cd r/w, dvd Rom - doesn't read data or audio cds anymore. It does still play dvds'.
What could have changed?
The device players light flashes for a while, you can hear that it's trying to read the cds, but then stops.

Any ideas?

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

There must be a firmware problem just try to update it!!
