Internet Explorer 8 problem

Hello,
I keep getting the following error when i log on to differant web sites, "internet explorer cannot display the webpage-favorit" I have tried differant suggestions i.e. disengaging windows firewall, using Firefox, but nothing has worked ay the moment.

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 8.0

Hye if you are using a modem or a router just unplug the power source jack and plug it again after some seconds!! Just reset your connection..

THANK YOU SUFF954 !!!! Your suggestion fixed the problem for me. I have Cox Cable and I just cut the power source to the modem and after a bit turned it back on and it reset something. It totally fixed the problem and now I can access the internet.
