Connecting projector to laptop

Hello, I can connect a projector to my laptop but cannot get the display to show on the external screen.

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

You have connected the projector,
Just press the presentation mode on your keyboard, Fn + (Presentation Key), Sometimes F5 or F8!

Then you will see your desktop on the projector screen.

Thank you! I messed with the setup for an hour before I found your hint. That solved my problem and taught me how F8 works. (Been using PCs since the Osborne days but I'm new to projectors.)
