Copy text(cross reference) from one doc to an

Hello,
using open office, want to be able if possible to transfer text from a cross reference from an input field from one document to another, text is inesrted in first doc as input field and used several times in the same doc as a reference but cant get it to reference to another document, read a bit about macro's but not sure if possible and what they really are, thanks anyone if they can solve my scrathing head
