Hi :)

If this is still a problem then hopefully something early in either of these 2 guides might help

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting

Please also try the Ubuntu help forums & official documentation at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Signpost/Questions#help

Also this forum should be able to help
http://www.linuxquestions.org
as it deals with a huge range of different versions of linux but is dedicated to linux support.

Anything that works better in 8.10 is likely to get back-ported to 8.04 soon because 8.04 (Hardy Heron) is the latest release with Long Term Support until 2011. I would not advise upgrading to 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) although it might be fun and could be better than waiting. Of course since 9.04 has been released you might be able to skip 8.10 and upgrade straight to 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope).

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
