Hello,
yesterday I plugged my external hard disk (HItachi) on my mac and I copied all my files into it, because I didn't have any more space in my laptop. After I did that I deleted my files from my laptop, but before I checked if I could open them from my external drive and it was ok. Today, I plugged again my external hard disk and the files weren't showing. I checked the info on the disk and I could see the memory used and I am pretty sure the files are there, but I can not read them at all. I can not even see them, please help me. I really need my files.
Thank you so much
And

Configuration: Mac OS X

I think ur files in the ext hard disk is hidden.
it may be due to some virus attack
in mac there will an option to see the hidden files if it didn`t worked u have another way to see the files
some ziping software like 7-zip, win zip, winrar etc.. will show the hidden files
if u have any of this software from that software u can see that files.
and make sure if ur computer is infected by virus.
if u get solved ur problem with my idea please mail me

You're an idiot. A young and inexperienced one who shouldnt be answering questions on a forum. I base my argument on the following -

Your awful use of the English vernacular
The fact that you clearly know nothing about either Macs or PC's (have you ever even used a Mac?)

I have exactly the same problem, and your 'fix' doesent even come close. Do us all a favour and never reply to a technical forum again.

Herbie.

Oh, I think Mr. "go4tyson" knows exactly what he's doing...a common tactic used by hackers to identify attack vectors for future exploit is to gain as many e-mails as possible; this helps facilitate the "oh-so-tried-and-true" socially engineered phishing attack. Based on the absolutely horrible use of the English language, along with some simple intelligence gathering, I think "go4tyson" might be a 21-year old male from India...one of those countries jam packed full of wannabe hacker script-kiddies.

Don't e-mail this idiot...it's a terrible ploy...probably looking to complete his "Hackers 301" class in junior year.

Mr. Cyber agent. you should be a detectitve A.K.A shelock holmes dude. just from the reply of Mr. go4tyson you deduced that he not only is a hacker but he is from india. just by his poor choice of words you think he is an indian. i would like to tell you that we indians are the best brainpowerpowers of the world and your dumb country(USA) is being run by us INDIANS. you people dnt even know how to handle a light bulb properly leave aside a PC. 40% of ppl working in NASA and MICROSOFT are INDIANS. you guys can only play big daddy and attack oil rich countries like iraq, israel etc. and claim to be peacekeepers. by the nickname , that is you who seem to be the hacker who has'nt completed his so called course so far and that too an amateur one. so STFU dude.

It happen with me too, but I can see my data back by using classic mac OS. All Data can be see as well but you cannot open them. So use get info by click the harsddisk & push command (apple) + i. We can see teh setting are "NO Acccess" ( or ignore ownership). Change the seeting there to " All can read & write". the close that finder. Tara...restast your mac use your default OS...Your Data hard disk will be appear. good luck

Anyone fixed this?

Try open Disk Utility.
I don't know if my problem is related, but i can't see my ext. drive at all.

I have used my external WD 500GB for a while, and suddenly, out of nowhere, it disappeared.
The files on the drive is actually pretty important, but I have realized that they are gone.

If I open "disk utilities" (or whatever it's translated to in English, I have a Norwegian Mac) I can actually see my hard drive, but it's greyed out. If i try to repair or verify it using "First Aid" as it's called here, it says something maybe translated to:

Invalid node structure
Volume control failed
Error: Verifying or repair of file system failed

Then a message pops up saying something like:

First Aid failed
Disk Utility stopped verifying "ExternalDrive" because following errors were found:
Verifying or repair of file system failed.

I mean.. Thats not even an error..!
I can hear the drive work when i plug it in, and also when i open disk utility, so there is contact.

Anyone?
I've read that it can have something to do with the Format of the system of the hard drive or whatever, but.. it has been working the whole last year..

Thanks
Stiian

Did you ever resolve this? I had the same problem today.

I ended up giving the drive to one of the technical staff at the college I teach at, and haven't had it back yet. I can see myself putting a nail through it and putting it in the bin. Someone told me a while ago that I have a high EMF (electro-magnetic field) as I seem to go through Ext HDD's and flash drives to the dozen. Perhaps that has something to do with it, perhaps its bollocks.

Due to the overwhelming response from idiots and casual racists on here, I decided not to come back. So no, I didn't resolve this. Sorry :(
