Hello,

I'm having problems getting past the Windows loading screen on Vista. It was working fine, then said 'Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause etc etc.'

Launching a startup repair reveals no problems. Starting Windows Normally causes the screen to be stuck at the Microsoft Corporation loading screen.

I have tried to get into Safe Mode to delete the registry edit BUT safe mode is simply a blank screen with Safe Mode in the top 4 corners. I can't get into the command manager because CTR+ALT+DEL does nothing, as does CTR+ALT+ESC.

Is there a way of loading this in MS DOS (if that still works)? Does this sound typical of a Trojan/Virus? I can't reload Vista from the CD as this was a second hand computer, I have tried restoring it to Factory Settings but still it won't load up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Configuration: Windows Vista
IE

Update - I managed to get to the regedit via the system repair screen. I deleted the explorer and ixplore.exe entries which weren't in the imaging file but rather software.

Now it gets past the loading screen as if it were about to load up Vista but then just displays a blank screen a cursor.

I had the exact same problem and I tried the start-up repair close to 50 times and it eventually worked. I HAVE NO DOUBTS IT WILL PROBABLY DO THIS AGAIN though. I would just suggest that you keep trying. Try leaving it for a couple of hours on the loading screen as well.

Wish I could be more helpful as I know how annoying this is.

With Vista, hardware that is plugged in such as Ipods, Mice and other USB ports seem to stop the computer going past the "Microsoft Corporation" loading screen.

Try removing all external USB plugs during start-up.

Have you tried CHKDSK/F to correct for any disk problems while you are in safe mode?
