Hello,
I have a HP pavilion dv2000 laptop. My problem with this laptop is, that one day I turned it off by sending it to hibernation and the next day I turned it on it wouldn't start at all. The only response I get is 1 short 1 long and 2 short beeps. After that it's just 1 long and 2 short beeps. Only the power led is blinking and the led of the touchpad which changes from blue to orange.
I tried to take out every part of the laptop: battery, keyboard, memory modules, hdd but itt didn't solve my problem.
After that i disconnected the cord of the small battery and voil la the laptop starts up, but gets stuck at a screen telling me to set the bios dates correctly and press f1 to continue. At this point the keyboard of the laptop doesn't respond at all. Using an usb external keyboard I can continue the boot process, but if Vista starts to load, it loads for a while from the hdd but after a few secounds it gets compleatly stuck, and only pulling the plug helps me.
The only thing I can load on this thing is a linux live distro.

I have to keep the cord of the small battery always disconnected, otherwise the system only starts with the above mentioned beeps.
Another note: I run the test of the bios for the memory and for the HDD, the memory passes, but the HDD fails at the deeper test at 20%, and the same happens with a different HDD as well. From linux the hdd is accessible without any problems.

So if anybody has a solution or an idea...
By the way: Hp send us away saying sorry you are out of the waranty. Laptop is 1 year and 20 something days old...

I think that there's a problem with your HDD!
One thing you can do also, is to setup your bios to default settings!

You will have to replace the HDD and do a fresh windows installation!

Hi,
I thought about that as well, but as mentioned before, I tried the HDD bios test with a different HDD (320GB WesternDigital) and it gets stuck at the same 20% like the original one. I also tried a new installation of XP on the original and the WD HDD, but both of them get stuck at the beginning of the installation.
The only thing I could install so far was freedos, at least that works :) but even to start that I always have to make a bios reset, otherwise I only get the beeps and the black screen

I had the same prob with the peice o crap i have. The fix is to take it apart, use a heat gun on the graphics prosser. This model comp is notorious for over heating. What happens is the chip actually seperates from the board. Heat it up (200 degrees or so), put some nickels and dimes on it for wait, then let it cool down. Watch for the case though. I melted mine a little.
