Disable the front jack?

Hello,
My Pc Has a front jack and a bit of metal is stuck in there, which then is taking the sound away from my PC is there a way to disable the front jack and use the back and have sound again?

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 8.0

What you could do, you would have to open the case locate the connector cable and disconnect it, it is usually 6 or 8 pins wide, you can find coming from behind the jack panel, it usually is on the bottom of the motherboard, but on some dells it can be on the front(towards front of case) of the motherboard towards the center.

You might be able to do it within BIOS, though I don't know if you would be able to do it that way with your computer, or where to go in your BIOS to disable it

Is there away in the controll panel to disable the actuall jack not just pull it out

No, not without disabling all audio, the front ports aren't really controlled by anything, in a way it is easier to think of them as an extension to real ports on the back, just that they are plugged into the motherboard, but take priority of the audio when in use.
