Cannot power up new PC

yuyuman, on Tuesday June 17, 2008 12:16:57 PM
Hello,

I've been buying my computer parts over the past 4 months and just finished getting all the parts together.
The last thing i bought was my Palit Geforece 9800gtx graphics card and a Zalman 600-HP.

The problem is after connecting everything it wont boot up. My motherboard is the Gigabyte 965P-DS3P and have an Antec 900 case.

The connectors on the PSU are quite different to the normal PSU's i've dealt with and i am not sure if the PSU is compatible.

In the motherboard manual it says that to only connect the 4 pin pcie_12v connect to the PCIE_12v socket on the mobo if using two graphic cards. So does that mean i don't have to use this socket since i am using one graphic card? Also on the graphic card there is two PCIE 6 pin plug at the top. I only have one PCIE socket on the mobo. I checked this also with another tech and he wasn't sure.

Is the graphic card and PSU I have suitable for my mobo? I've emailed tthe manufacturers but they take awhile to answer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Hello

You should always use the 20+4 connection if you have a 20+4 psu power connetor, because that 4th pin is reserved for PCI Ex.

If your graphics card requires additional power like a 6 pin connector, and nothing is plugged into it, than that's your problem, that and if you don't have the 4th pin connected on the 20+4 main connection to your motherboard either. Your graphics card is draining too much power from the motherboards main power connection, that powers everything else on your motherboard.

If your psu doesn't have a 6 pin connector then you can buy a converter for it for 3 dollars.

Considering you haven't mentioned your specs on your psu, if it doesn't meet the Geforce 9800 series specs in power requirments then the above that i mentioned will be meaningless and you will have to go out and get another psu that meets the Geforce 9800 specs.

Geforce 9800 power requirments

Minimum

450W PSU.

ATX 1.0: 26amp on single 12v+ rail

ATX 2.0: 16amp on a dual 12v+ rail
