Hello
First see if you can ping google.com and 151.198.0.38 If you can, then go to tools, internet options in the browser and setup your connection again. If you can't, then your NIC isn't getting an IP address or the router isn't getting an IP address from the modem.

If you are running ZoneAlarm there was an automatic update that came out from Microsoft last week that is conflicting. Go to the ZoneAlarm website for info. |
I can access AOL and surf the internet but I cannot get internet explorer to work. I get the message "internet explorer
can't display the webpage. Does anyone have a fix? I have a desktop computer also and I can use either AOL or Internet Explorer.

I have the same problem too! A few days ago I woke up and opened firefox on my laptop which is conected by wireless and was left on overnight, and the page didnt load. IE does the same thing. I can access https sites, send and receive emails and use torrent/psp software. I can even ping google.com in cmd and get a response. But http sites dont load. I have another laptop connected by wireless to the modem and that works fine. Does anyone have any idea what the hell is going on?? |
It took me several days of trying everything to fix this and then I did the one thing that DID FIX IT. Here is what Idid. I completely REMOVED my Antivirus/Firewall software (I use AVG) and then re-installed AVG as a FRESH NEW inatallation. Lo and behold the IE http access probelm was solved immediately.
I reckon there was a conflict between WindowsX P and AVG, I keep trhem both upgraded. Hope this solves it for you too.

That is good news. What gets me is the amount of time one has to spend trying to find out why something has gone wrong and how to fix it. I might send an invoice to AVG and Microsoft (grin)
Wonder what the next thing is that will go wrong!

Hi All,
Just experienced the same thing, running avg 8.0.199 looks like it was the firewall was blocking svchost Disabling the firewall allowed the internet to start working But going into the firewall settings, enabling profile switch if it's not already mark your network adapter as safe and reset your default profile you should then be able to re-acivate the firewall without issue Worked for me, hope it helps others |
