Brightness Controller Problem on VAIO

Hello,
Very Recently I have own a vaio laptop (VGN-CS14G), Preinstalles vista home premium. I have downgraded to windows xp and installed all drivers provided for xp. But I am not able to controll the brightness. fn+f5/f6 is not working for xp.

Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 8.0

Did you verify if there's a driver for your keyboard functions??

Please try to download it or look for it on the driver CD

I have downloaded and installed all the available driver from sony site. Then even not working. They havn't provide me any driver CD.

I have the same pro with VGN CR23 G.
On http://www.sony-asia.com/...
they said Fn+F5 can't be used when downgrade.
Any idea?

Same issue with a BZ21VN: I've installed all drivers from the supplied CD and Sony website, but the brightness controls don't work. Incidentally, having the same issue with Linux, except that over there xbacklight provides a hack.

Hi Dan,
No solution at all on this problem. Even Sony has accepted the function will not work with XP.

i have downgraded to xp, and brightness shortcut controls work without a problem now

Sorry i dont have any scren shots, but what i did was:

right clik on my computer

click manage

click on 'device manager'

then right click on 'video controller' (which for me is already a yellow question mark for some reason)

then click 'disable'

then the hotkey brightness shortcut buttons started working.

after that i just 'enabled' the video controller

everything is still working great!
