Hello,

I recently upgraded IE6 to IE8. I am almost positive I have downloaded a rogue version that is causing all sorts of problems on my PC. In the About window, there are no version or product identifiers. The fields are blank. The top of the IE page says "Windows Internet Explorer provided by Yahoo 7". Websites aren't working properly and download buttons either don't appear or don't function. I tried uninstalling IE8 and reverting back to IE7 but it then appeared as "Windows Internet Explorer provided by Yahoo 7" with the same problems. When I went to uninstall it and revert to IE6, explorer doesn't appear in the Add/Remove Program list.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this program?

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 8.0

I've already uninstalled the IE8 version that was suspicious but then the IE7 version the pc reverted to was also behaving suspiciously and has this title "provided by Yahoo". I've tried uninstalling all versions of IE but they don't appear in the Add/Remove Programs list (?????). I am currently trying to restore to a point prior to the installation but the computer keeps saying "unable to restore - no changes made".

Now I have just observed my PC reboot itself out of safe mode into normal mode. Can you recommend a good hijackware detector?
