Hello,
have just started getting a problem.

A lot, but not all sites are inaccessible. If i try to access www.microsoft.com, for example, i get

Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at www.microsoft.com.

* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
.......
..........

This happens on Internet Explorer (6) too.

However i can access www.bbc.co.uk and most sites no problem.

The ones that are barred seem to be related to sites for downloading tools for fixing problems - www.pctools.com, www.freeavg.com etc.

I am getting the problem on my laptop using public wifi sites such as my local library and other places (i do not have my own ISP at present)

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

I have tried a number of different public wifi areas with the same result.

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

cheers

John

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 2.0.0.2

Hi,
this is caused by a trojan virus.
it will not allow you to access any website of Microsoft or antivirus.
but don't worry, it is not impossible to get rid of the virus.
Try this link to download the Trojan Remover software.
you will be able to download it since this is not its official website:
http://en.kioskea.net/telecharger/telecharger 1307 trojan remover
install it, do a scan and your problem will be solved.

I disagree.....This is NOT a virus problem... I completely reformatted one machine..still no microsoft pages loaded on it.... I noticed this issue about 2 weeks ago.. and I can see no answer to it.. At first i thought might be MTU but that does not appear to be the issue.. Even on XP machine running IE 6.0 One pc on my network will load microsoft but I see nothing in any settings to be different from my other PC's..

I ran spybot and that corrected my issue....Not sure what it took off, but it showed it only found 3 things and now it is working..
