Hello,

I have apparently a common problem, but no -one is coming out and fixing it...

I am trying to play CODWAW on a laptop which starts up with the blank screen where you can count and listen to the background noise and selection ticks, however that is as far as it goes, how do i fix it?

Thanks
Preator

Configuration: Windows XP
direct x 9
new drivers for laptop
IE - does it matter if i dont play online only in LANs?
Harddisk space is available- lots
dont have the specs as the laptop is not with me

This is because your laptop doesn't support this game! You didnt meet the system requirement to play it!

So bright spark!!! if 20 000 players have the same problem, who's fault is it? give me all the solutions then, because i have tried quite a few... internet switch off, newest drivers, direct x9 newest version, reinstalling, settings, screens, to name but a few most important ones. Please feel free to name the rest. If i new what the problem was i wouldn't have asked!!!

It comes down to a flip of a coin!!!

Either you win or you lose - 1 out of 2 chances...

The game was poorly coded by the creators as they used a poorly designed spec(choosing a poor screen card spec - it is suppose to easily run on all systems) to work from and instead of catering for the masses they catered for the lucky few..Better luck next time,

P.S. It also did not work when I had vista on the same laptop. And the game is boring!!! played it bored with it!!! Done with it!!!

HI there
i was having the same problem and i got mad however there are some tricks helped me to solve it.
1. google the term "directx 9.0 june download" w/o quotes.
2. after download uninstall the game and install the direct x.
3. reinstall the game.
4. run the game and then alt tab to desktop.
5. ctrl+shiflt+ESC to bring task manager.
6. close the game .exe through task manager via [End process].
7. rerun the game.
8. it'll notify you if you want to run in save mode , click [yes].
9. it should work if it doesn't : -browse to (Main > Video) and delete treyach.bik {ie. recycle it}

let me know if it works.
regards

ALT + TAB while ingame causes BLACK SCREEN... it's not a Video card Issue...
Black Screen on startup could be an issue with your RIG being sub-Par

I run a 9800 GTX+, this card has more than enough guts to run COD WaW... I also tested with an 8800 GT used in conjunction with the 9800 GTX+, using the 8800 gt as a dedicated Physx processor, and still ALT+TAB ends up with a Black Screen more than half of the time. Even those running GTX 260, and 295 in my Gaming Clan have the same issue.
Also internet connection speeds seem to be a non issue as to the BLACK screen on ALT+TAB while ingame. COD WaW has been bugged since it's release, so your internet connection is not the problem either.

Everyone I know that has the game in my gaming Clan runs into the same problem.

Finally it's not my system in general, my rig has more than enough B@LLS to handle this, and no other game gives me this issue
