External drive very slow copying date to D:

Hello,
trying to copy music and other date from external drive to D: drive is extremely slow, the D: drive has been formatted, can anyone help, please not too techical

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 8.0

Hi,
check in which format the drive is.
normally it should be in the NTFS, the transmission of data is faster in NTFS.
or it may be that you are using the external drive at the same time you are copying data from it.
it may be that your antivirus software is scanning it.

Hi
Both the external and D: drives are NTFS, my anti virus is not scanning it, and a bit confused by perhaps i am using it while trying to copy data, i usually drag and drop from ext to d no prob, doing same now
