My cd player is not working

Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion 701 and when I put my HP cd player in, it is in the bios under slave ! is that right! but it does not show up in my windows I have XP I have tried to update driver but it says there is one but its not working ! What should I do!

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.10

Hi,
go to the BIOS and check if the drive is enabled.
if not, enable it.
