Max Partition size for HFS?

Hello,
writing from fort lauderdale USA

My instructor asked us to find max partition sizes for --FAT--FAT32---and NTFS----he also added HFS but it looks like the larger the size the less efficient it becomes and wastes memory ...any ideas --thanx in advance---joe
