Hello, I have a dell inspiron that i got in July 2008.
Recently -about a month 1/2 ago-, the battery has stopped charging. Basically, it's all the way down -0%-, and the computer will only work if the power cord is plugged in, and then the second it comes out, it turns off. I figured that it just needs its battery replaced -all through it shouldn't, so soon.
And then, yesterday, it told me to do a StartUp Repair scan thing. I thought, OK, this shouldn't take long - my cord comes out a lot, so recently i've done a few of these. But then, when i turned my computer back on, it went to the Dell startup screen, and then went to a blank black screen with nothing but a small, horizontal white line in the top left. It looks like an underscore. I pressed CTRL+Alt+DELETE, and it took me back to the Dell screen. After that, the black screen came back.
Does this have anything to do with the power cord?
My computer worked fine until yesterday, besides the cord.
I have Vista. Does that affect it?
HELP!

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

A'ight,

I had the exact same issue with my 1545, I called Dell and they took it away for repairs, when it came back they said that the Motherboard had fried as had the HDD. So call them up and they'll repair it for you

Due to my Laptop being under warrenty it cost me nothing, but if it weren't then I imagine it would cost around £50-100.
