Hello,
I have recently bought a Pioneer DVD drive and installed VLC Media Player to aquire the necessary codecs. VLC can read DVDs from the drive ok. However, when I attempted to write a file to a DVD+R in the drive I got the message 'D:/ is not accessable....Incorrect function'. Also, when looking at the drive in 'My Computer', the drive label changed from 'DVD-RW Drive (D:) to 'CD Drive (D:)'!
Does anyone know what's going on???

Configuration: Pentium 4 1.4Ghz 640MB RAM 120GB HD Windows XP Home SP3 Internet Explorer 7.0

I'm having the exact same problem with two DVDRW drives on separate computers. Once was new from Newegg and the other was used from a friend. Same errors as specified above. Any answers from anyone yet? I'd appreciate help on this.

Newegg one is Pioneer DVR-117DBK manufactured Feb. 2009 and the used one is Hitachi/LG HLGSA-H20L manufactured August 2006.

I see no reason why they won't work. All updates are installed and everything, says they are installed, they just don't work.

Thanks!

Hi BigDog,

I think you need the Codecs for the DVD player/writer to work. I went to this web address - http://download.cnet.com/...|platform=Windows&filterName=licenseName=Free|platform=Windows&tag=ltcol.
Hope this helps.

I went to the download site, found a program for burning called DVD Power Burner. I've got one to almost work! It actually detects the blank DVD as a blank CD (closer than I've ever come before), it shows up in the app as the full 4+ GB, it burns, says successful!...then when tested it will show all the files (pics and vids), one picture thumbnail will actually be correct, but nothing at all opens correctly. I tried a couple different settings in the app to no avail. I'm almost there.

Regarding an install CD, both Pioneer and LG have adamantly told me that there are no install CD's or software, XP should just recognize the device and install the appropriate driver (I have XP Pro).

...a little less frustrated, but still frustrated.

Thanks!

Hi BigDog,

I had to load quite a few different Codecs before I was successful! I think this depends on what DVD writer you have and what DVDs you want to read and write. However, I'm certainly no expert at this!
It is correct that no software is neccesarily needed for your DVD writer to operate (other than Codecs and Drivers) and that Windows usually recognizes the Writer and finds the correct Drivers. However, if you are still having trouble with drivers, I suggest going on to the manufacturer's web-site and looking up your particular Writer, then downloading a driver from there.
Lastly, have you checked in Device Manager that the Writer is recognized bt your system and that it has no 'error flags' against the device?

I hope this helps as I can offer no further information.

Best of luck,
elboy

Right click on the drive in windows explorer, go Properties, Recording Tab and tick the box that says "Enable Recordings"

Windows automatically disables recording on new drives and gives this unhelpful error message. Aargh.
