Using Mandriva in text mode
For many reasons it may happens that you may need to use Mandriva in text mode
The solution
At installation, you will Partitioning/ Install section, you will be given the choices of graphical environment and the groups of packages you want to install.
- 1 - Go to Customize.
- 2 - Choose your package groups.
- 3 - Remove all graphical environments that are at the bottom of the window.
- 4 - Start the installation
Note that :
When installing Mandriva without graphical interface, the GRUB menu will also be in text mode.
Using the GUI manually
If the use of the graphical environment is needed occasionally better start console by default. You'll have a graphical interface that you normally selected during the installation, and the display (using the command
startx).
To configure Mandriva proceed as follow: from graphical mode, go to the Mandriva Control Center (MCC command). Then go to the Start, then click Configure automatic connection. Just uncheck Run GUI at startup and validate changes.
keyboard shortcuts to switch between graphical and text mode:
- Ctrl + Alt + F1 = Passage in text mode.
- Ctrl + Alt + F7 = Back in graphics mode (if enabled).
