How to choose the right laptop?
Choosing a laptop can seem easy, but bear in mind that there are a number of factors that you should take into consideration before making such a purchase. Why choose a laptop first of all? It’s surely because you would not want to carry a big PC everywhere and it would surely not fit in your bag when going to work or to school. It should be effective and accessible anywhere, whether you are going on a business trip or using it a work. Thus, these are the following factors that you should bear in mind:
Mobility
As said before, in order not to get yourself bothered with a PC, you will choose a laptop that you will be able to carry with you anywhere. But you should know that some laptops are also very heavy and somehow large on size. If you are one who often goes on business trips and always have your laptop bag on your shoulder, you will know that the size and weight of this one counts for much. Prefer one laptop that is small. Small does not always mean junk. The slim MacBook Air proposed by Apple would perfectly fit your needs. It is easy to carry anywhere you go and would even fit in your own bag. But be careful though, slim and small can often mean that the laptop can be easily broken. Always choose the right laptop bag to carry your laptop, the battery supply and any other peripherals needed.
Battery
The battery of a laptop is one of the most important aspects that you will need to ensure before buying a new or second hand laptop. If you are at an office and would use your laptop while it is charging, this will not be a big deal for you. But if you are on a trip and do not have any electric plug nearby, this can be a real nightmare. A decent laptop should be able to have a battery lasting approximately two hours before going on stand by. This can allow you to do a number of things, like saving your work, make a small presentation, finishing a work, having a good backup during power cuts and most of all make the fair initial use of a laptop! Remember that the most effective batteries can sometimes be the heaviest ones.
RAM
The RAM of your laptop must be considered in respect to the use of the laptop. If you are one who will only use the basic text based texts or spreadsheets for your work or personal use, then you will not need a big RAM capacity. 512MB will perfectly suite your needs. Else, you will need to use a 1GB/2GB capacity if you are required to use programs like Photoshop or those that will require much more capacity.
Video card
The video card of your laptop is considered also in respect to the use of the laptop. If you are one who will need a high definition and resolution either for your work or personal use, you will need at least 512 MB of RAM memory…if not more. One tip that I suggest you is to try to get a TV/PC connection, so that you can play your games (if this is what you usually do with your laptop) directly on your TV.
Connectivity
Most laptops today have integrated Bluetooth connection that facilitates WIFI connections. While buying a laptop, you should ensure that this feature is effective. If the laptop that you are having does not have an integrated Bluetooth connection, you can choose to add a WIFI hub in it to allow having WIFI connection with the help of this hub.
Peripherals
Your laptop should have all ports that will allow you to add some peripherals to it. The first thing that you should ensure is that it has enough USB entry ports that will allow you to connect different peripherals such as USB ports, a TV to PC connection, audio devices connections , or simply a mouse and a headset entry.
Heat and noise
Alike a classic PC, a laptop will heat up and make some noise. The difference is that most of the time, the heat of a laptop will come from the bottom of the device. Those who have the bad habit of putting a laptop on their laps while working should be very careful about this (it is somehow controversial but laptops are not advised to be put on one’s lap!). The noise that a laptop will make will depend on the CD/DVD drive that has been integrated to the device. If your work requires much concentration and does not allow you to be bothered by a noisy drive, just remember to check this function before buying one.
Warranty
Compared to classic PCs, a laptop’s lifetime can be very limited, depending on the different ways that you decide to use it. Thus, make sure that you have a very good warranty as you should know that no parts of a laptop can be replaced or changed.
