Window managers
Unlike some Windows and Mac Based solutions (operating systems),the possibility to choose a window manager is endemic to GNU\Linux. The window manager is managed by the graphics server, allowing you to move, resize, create icons, manage multiple virtual desktops and keyboard shortcuts.
Concerning GNU/Linux, the most logical deduction will be making use of KDE, Gnome or Xfce. Lost! These are 2D graphics environments that integrate a window manager. However, these graphical environments use a lot of memory (RAM, hence explanatory for the use of windows managers with some specific configurations or in Live CD version.
Below is a list window managers still in use.
AfterStep
AfterStep want to reproduce the environment generated by NeXTSTEP. Several modules make this solution fully ergonomically usable and coheren.t

FVWM
FVWM was designed in such a way that nothing is intended to be imposed to the user. Many features can easily be disabled during installation or on demand (through dialog windows).
Almost all types of changes can be made, including: interaction with KDE and GNOME, winding windows, creating icons, support for PNG and Perl, scripting features, dynamic menu and session management. E.g You can even give the appearance of Windows Vista or XP or Mac OS X, but don’t forget the memory constraints.
