What are MRU?

The MRU sheets (Most Recently Used Lists) is used to define elements of the system giving the list of items used lastly. By default Windows creates a list of recent documents opened by Microsoft tools or affiliates (Office suite, multimedia tools).Several software create their own list of most recent opened documents or recent page viewed. The same applies for several websites or web application (via cookies), listing the last items searched for, on the web.

Basically MRU lists, make the system more convenient to use as the elements recently consulted are easily accessible. In return, they can be a problem in terms of confidentiality.

Fortunately, there are free tools to clear out these critical data on demand (CCleaner) or disable such listing mechanism, in whole or in part (MRU Blaster, Tweak UI).
