Routers devices can’t be hacked
Myth
The fact that routers and firewall devices (hardware) don’t possess an operating system, it implies that cannot be hacked.
Reality
Router devices can be considered as small specialized computers running network programs and that forwards data along a network. Like other applications, the rule is the same; they can be hacked via the backdoors and security flaws present in their programs.
I think it’s odd to say that routers don’t possess any OS. The CISCO routers have their own operating system IOS (which is open to to rootkits).
There are a lot of routers and Alcatel PABX, running under Linux or BSD.
As you know these systems aren't invulnerable to attacks and the same goes for your routers.
