Vista is not detecting the other XP based PCs on Local network






Issue


Sometimes when connecting a Vista based PC to a XP based network, it may happens that your Vista PC is unable to detect the other XP based PC, making File/Print sharing iimpossible

Solution


If you are having a hard time finding any other pc's on your network make sure that "Password Protected Sharing" is disabled. Follow the instructions to see if it's on.
  • Start
  • Control panel
  • Network and Internet (or Network and Sharing Center if you have "Classic View" enabled)
  • Network and Internet Sharing Center
  • Scroll down until you see "Password Protected Sharing" and tick it off.
