Unable to access a registry key to install WLM





Issue


During the installation WLM you are prompted by the following error mesage:
unable to open key 
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftmediaplayerUIP-F5A6-404B-9A78-7027FA6EAADD}


System Error 5. Make sure you have the right to access needed for this key.

Solution

  • Start/ Run and type: regedit
  • Expand to the key "RestrictAnonymous"
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlLsa
  • Double-click "RestrictAnonymous" and set it's value 0
  • Restart your PC.
