Recoviring the volume and the network icons in Vista









Sometimes it may happens that youthe volumeand the network icons normally found in the notification area are missing.
  • To handle this issue:


Right click on a blank spot on the taskbar/properties.
    • Go to the Notification Area tab check the boxes for the optios you want to have in the notification area.
    • Sometimes it is impossible to tick both boxes (they are grayed out), in this case, restart your PC and repeat process.
  • If the problem persists then:


Go to Start Menu/ Run and type regedit
Before continuing, it is better to backup the registry.
    • Locate the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\
    • Continue to the key: Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify
    • Remove the two values ( IconStreams/PastIconsStream)
    • Restart your PC and repeat above process.
