[MSN] Sound (microphone) and video (webcam) problems

If you connect to the Internet, launch MSN and you do not hear or do not see your contact or vice versa.

Firewall

Make sure the problem is not the firewall (Windows XP firewall, ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security, etc..).

Support for Microsoft recommends involve opening the following ports of the firewall:
9000, 1863, 6891-6900.

If necessary, temporarily disable the firewall in Windows XP to test. To disable the firewall in Windows XP:
Network connections/click the right button on your connection/Properties/Advanced/ Uncheck the firewall for internet connection

Packet Scheduler

It is possible that the problems result from the QoS Packet Scheduler. To disable it:
  • In Windows, click Start/Control Panel
  • Click on Network and Internet Connections then Network Connections.
  • Right click Network Connection / Internet, and then click Properties
  • Uncheck "QoS Packet Scheduler.
  • Restart your computer.

One of the contacts has no Video

On Messenger 6.0, go to the Tools tab, then go Adjusting audio and video settings, to activate the video of the webcam, go to the Action tab and then click

Start a video conference .. . rather webcam image.

Check if your camera works other applications.

Remember to update the drivers with the latest version!

Sound is not working

Check the volume level of the microphone, possibly making a test with the recorder included with your operating system.
On Windows it is located in:
Start/Programs/Accessories/ Entertainment/Sound Recorder
  • If it does not work, make sure the microphone/ webcam microphone is selected as default under Windows!
  • Volume control/ Options / Properties / Recording / OK / Select
  • Check that the mute option the microphone is not selected in the control panel size.

Finally, check that the jack of your microphone is connected properly. It is also recommended to test the microphone on another computer.

Note

If none of this works, you still have an alternative: the Skype software:
