Please read this article http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-230-gmail-google-mail

Some of its advantages:
storage capacity exceeding 2.8 GB
Management of discussion by email
Labeling system messages
Integrated search engine

GMail Compatibility

GMail is compatible with all browsers as long as they support the use of cookies and Javascript.

If you use a recent browser (Chrome, Firefox, Mozilla or Opera) you will enjoy the advanced features (faster loading of pages, keyboard shortcuts, automatic backup of mail in preparation, auto-completion, etc.).

Compatibility with mail clients

Your Gmail account can also be accessed via a standard mail client (like Outlook, Thunderbird, IncrediMail, etc. ...). However, it requires a particular configuration. Indeed, it requires the use of SSL on port 995 for the pop server, and TLS on ports 465 or 587. To take advantage of this, you must activate it in the settings of your Gmail account.

Enabling POP

To retrieve your messages using any mail client, you must enable POP option is disabled by default. Here's how:
With your browser, go to mail.google.com
  • Click the Settings link (top right).
  • Go to the Forwarding and POP tab.
  • Select the parameter Enable POP for all mail.
  • Click Activate Changes.
  • Check in your mail client if the server name of your POP3 GMail account is pop.gmail.com.
