Note that this tip is valid for both Windows XP Home and Professional
Intro
Normally after finishing installation the latest updates for your computer, a restart is normally required before the changes are made. A small window appears and you should have the options to Restart Now or to Restart later , your PC
However problem is that, if you don’t want to restart your PC, Windows will remind you frequently need to restart your computer (Pop-ups will emerge and ask you to restart) and sometimes (after a period of time)Windows will shut down your PC automatically , without your consent.
Solution
Here is a way to handle this problem (note that it is not permanent)
After installing the updates and you click once on [Restart later].
Click on Start/Run
Type in the dialog box net stop wuauserv
Confirm by clicking OK.
By doing this, you stop the service "Automatic Updates", which has for purpose to download and install Windows updates? Thus, the window will not restart any more during your session.
NB: This service will run automatically when you restart the computer and it is needed to perform this trick again with each installation of updates.
Creating a Shortcut
But you can create a shortcut on the desktop to stop the service and use it whenever necessary, it's simple and convenient.
Create a shortcut to stop the service Updates
Click New, Shortcut
A dialog box opens. Type net stop wuauserv and press next.
Enter a name for your shortcut, drag it in the taskbar or desktop and now at each reboot proposal, just click on this icon.
