Changing the targets of (My documents and its contents)





My Documents and contents


If you are using XP, to change the path of your ‘My Documents’:
• Right Click on the ‘My documents’ icon on your desktop or from the start menu
• Select Properties
• Change the target
• All sub-folders of ‘My Documents’ will be automatically changed to the new target

If you are a Vista User, the changes should be done separately:
• Right click on the ‘My Documents’ icon in the start menu
• Select Properties
• Click on the ‘Location’ tab
• Then click move and choose a new Location
• You just have to repeat these steps for other folders

Using tweakUI (XP)


• Download and Install TweakUI: http://en.kioskea.net/telecharger/telecharger 1405 microsoft tweakui
• Run TweakUI
• Then open ‘My Computer’ then ‘Special Folders’
• Select all the folders you want to change its location then click on ‘Change location’


Registry Mode - Manually


Please note that its risky to edit the registry database. So be really careful now.
It’s really important to do a backup of your registry database and to create a restore point!
• Saving th registry database
• Open the registry editor (Start > Run > RegEdit)
• Go there:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders


• There will be three values:

-My Music
-My Pictures
-My Videos
-Click on the value name to be edited then enter M:Music

Note:
  • With slashes: \ (anti-slash): Windows uses anti backslashes (\) instead of slashes (/)!
  • Make sure that the directory entry exists and create it if necessary...
