Customize the [save] dialog box

Customize dialog box "Save" or "Save as ..." Windows (XP or 2000);
More precisely, it is to customize the left column, containing the default shortcuts (icons) "My Recent Documents", "Office", "My Documents", "My Computer" and "My Network".

Solution 1 ( using a software)

Microsoft TweakUI: http://en.kioskea.net/telecharger/telecharger 1405 microsoft tweakui

Go to Section "Common Dialogs"> "Places Bar"

Solution 2 (manual method)

  • First, as it will modify the registry of Windows, it is recommended to take proper precautions.(save the registry, make a backup)
  • Then open the registry editor, if not already done so. Go to Start, Run, then type regedit and click OK.
  • Navigate in the tree (left column of the Registry Editor), up to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
  • Right click on Policies and click New, and then click Key.
  • Enter the name of the new key: Comdlg32 and validate by [Enter].
  • Right click on Comdlg32, and then click New, and Key.
  • Enter the name of the new key: PlacesBar.

At this point, if you open a dialog box "Save" or "Save as ..." (in an application using the standard dialog boxes of Windows), you should see the shortcut in question had disappeared.
  • Right click on PlacesBar, and then click New, then:

o To create a shortcut to a "personal" folder (ie any file that is not a standard Windows folder), click String Value.
  • Enter the name of the new value: Place
    0
    (zero) and validate by [Enter].
  • Click Place
    0
, then Edit, and enter the path to the folder that you want to create the first shortcut (the one that is most at the top).
  • Validate by OK.
  • On the contrary, to create a shortcut to a standard Windows folder ( "My Computer", "My Documents", "My Recent Documents "...), click
    DWORD Value
    .
  • Enter the name of the new value: Place
    0
    (zero) and validate by [Enter].
  • Click Place
    0
, then Edit, and enter the number (code) corresponding to the standard Windows folder to which you want to create the first shortcut.
  • Validate by OK.
  • Repeat step 7, replacing Place0 by Place1 then Place2, etc..

There is room for 5 icons .
