What is an IP address?


When a PC is connected to the Internet, it automatically has an Internet Protocol (IP) address. This address defines your computer and enables online devices to locate them on the internet. The format of an IP address takes the form of four digit numbers from 0 to 255 divided by periods. 123.45.67.89 is the example of how your IP address should be displayed.

How to know your IP address?


There are simple ways for you to find out your IP address

For Windows 2000/ Windows XP/ Windows Vista users

  • 1. Go to your Start button and select the Run option
  • 2. Type in cmd /k ipconfig /all
  • 3. A command window will pop up and list your IP number.

For Windows 95/ Windows 98 users

  • 1. Go to your “Start” button and select the “Run” option
  • 2. Type in winipcfg
  • 3. A command window will pop up and list your IP number.
