The Framakey - Portable Applications on USB key

You travel and need a computer. If you do not have a laptop, you are obliged to use the machine for others. Thus:
Directly or use the entire system of the machine in the hope that the software installed for you.
Either you are doing with GNU / Linux and then use a LiveCD, provided that the LiveCD can smoothly depending on the configuration of the machine.
Either you use a USB 2.0 with your favorite software preinstalled and configured on this key.

The basic Framakey

The Framakey includes several free software on a USB key. This software is operational by connecting directly your key on a Windows system (the system is already started). The Framakey has only advantages:
• You have nothing to install on the host machine.
• You can store information on your key (subject to the obvious places).
• The software of the Framakey are secure.
• You leave no traces on the host used.
• You can make the office (OpenOffice.org or Abiword), use the Internet (Firefox, Thunderbird, Miranda), listening to music (Coolplayer) or watch videos (VideoLAN Client).


There are several packs of Framakey:

• Framakey Pack Lite 1.6: containing Abiword, Firefox, Miranda, Thunderbird, Coolplayer,

• VideoLan Client and only require a USB 256 MB;

• Framakey Full Pack 1.7: containing OpenOffice.org, Firefox, Miranda, Thunderbird, Coolplayer,

• VideoLan Client and not require a key of 512 MB;

• Pack Framakey 1.8.x: requiring a key to 1 GB but with more than 50 applications and games in the last stable versions;

• Pack Framakey 2.0 Alpha development version;

• Pack Framakey "LaTeX edition": a key to 1 GB of documents to produce latex.


Simply download the desired package and extract the executable file in your key.

The additional software

Most software is now included in the Framakey natively since version 1.7. However, you can add other portable applications.

Other applications are available or planned.

Modification of the window under Vista FramaKiosk

Under Vista the window of our FramaKiosk is not complete, it must pass through the horizontal scroll bar / vertical to navigate ...

To change the display window FramaKiosk go to:

Framakey \ FramaKiosk \ bin \ defaults \ profile \ Pref.js. 

The open with notepad and change the following values:

user_pref ( "kmeleon.display.width", 780) ---> width
user_pref ( "kmeleon.display.height", 580) ---> length
user_pref ( "kmeleon.display.maximized", false) ---> full screen by replacing the value "true"
