Choosing the best Wi-Fi channel
Wi-Fi channel
Wi-Fi is a wireless network technology with a limited part of the bandwith to limit the noise of other equipment.
Here is the list of channels (frequencies associated) of the ISM bandwith (2.4 GHz) authorized in Wi-Fi:
Channel 1: 2.412 MHz
Channel 2: 2.417 MHz
Channel 3: 2.422 Mhz
Channel 4: 2.427 Mhz
Channel 5: 2.432 Mhz
Channel 6: 2.437 Mhz
Channel 7: 2.442 Mhz
Channel 8: 2.447 Mhz
Channel 9: 2.452 Mhz
Channel 10: 2.457 MHz
Channel 11: 2.462 MHz
Channel 12: 2.467 MHz
Channel 13: 2.472 MHz
Channel 14: 2.477 MHz
Why selecting a WiFi channel?
To communicate, all the components of a WiFi network must use the same channel. In the WiFi network in infrastructure mode (using an access point), it depends on the channel set at the access point.
However, most people leave the default channel, which means that several wireless networks using the same channel and share the good connection.
For better results when using WiFi, it is necessary to adjust the channel on the access point, as well as configured on the client, to take the least used channel in your neighborhood.
To do this, you can use software such as NetStumbler, which will list the neighborhood wifi networks and channels used. Note the channels most frequently used to select one as free as possible.

Retrieve the channel used by your access point
You must know what channel your access point uses.
Adjust the channel used by your computer
- Going into the network and sharing center
o Just click on the Network icon in the lower right side of the hour, then select "Network and Sharing Center"
* Manage network connections
o To change the channel, click on Manage network connections
o Then, in the window that opens, right-click the wireless connection active properties / Configure
o Go to the Advanced tab, then choose " WZC IBSS channel number" or "channel" or another similar option.
o Modify its value, so the channel, to be the same one you set on your Box or Wifi router. If performance does not improve, change channels, but defined on the box must be the same as your computer.
