Burning a disk Image (ISO, NRG,…)

Some believe that burning a disk image requires prior to extract the files. Then they find that there is a problem. Yes but which one? Is it a bad burn or download?

The ISO image definition

A disk image is the image of a CD (or DVD) ready to be etched. The image contains all the data to be recorded without difficulty. So just burn the image as is! Strictly no manipulation! No need to waste time on bétises which only serve to ruin a cake! No need to use Winzip, daemontools and consort! Besides extracting files from image, you may lose the beginning of boot in the case of CD and DVD bootable.

In fact, there are several formats of disk images:
• CCD: Clone CD format
• CUE: format-Cue Sheet
• ISO: the most common format is the international standard ISO 9660
• MDS: Media Descriptor format used by Alcohol
• NRG format Nero Image Editor
• PDI format Instant CD / DVD
• CDI: DiscJuggler format

Recommendation

If the sums of integrity checks do not match exactly, no need to start writing. The checksum of the image must be strictly identical to that shown with the download link.

If you do not have the exact equality between the two controls are, try downloading from the beginning!

How to proceed ?

Quite simply, open your favorite burning software to select the option "Burn a disc image" or "Burn ISO image".

Note that this procedure remains the same for Easy CD Creator and Easy DVD Creator (these designations constituting only the names of older versions of this software).

Warning

If you burn with a high burn speed, it may be that your CD / DVD is simply unusable because of a burn speed too high.
The recommended burning speed depends on the burner, when in doubt, choose a speed of 8x.
