Creating common Linux/Windows directory on a server






Handling emails via Thunderbird in a dual boot environment

Requirements

  • A linux server turned on 24/24 hours and 7/7 days
  • A PC working in dual-boot Linux/XP with Thunderbird installed and configured

Thunderbird configuration under GNU/Linux

  • Copy the directory .thunderbird de /home/user/ in a shared folder on the server GNU/Linux
    • Open a console and type:


thunderbird -ProfileManager
  • Delete Thunderbird profile WITHOUT ERASING THE FILES!
  • Create a new profile by specifying the path to the GNU/Linux server (remote).


Configuring Thunderbird under Windows

  • Start/ Run/ and type:

thunderbird.exe -profilemanager
  • Delete Thunderbird profile
  • Create a new profile by specifying the path to the GNU/Linux server(remote)

Testing

  • Open Thunderbird under Linux, check files, email, accounts, rules and send a test mail.
  • Open Thunderbird on Windows and do the same thing.
