Waiting for a valid GPS signal

You are actually unable to give the position with your TomTom GPS as the following messages display:

GPS signal lost for xx minutes
Waiting for a valid GPS signal
Bad GPS reception: you are inside a building?

Explanation

It may happen that during the first use or even after a long period of unused, it may take longer time than usual to detect the position of the GPS.

Solution

To troubleshoot, try the following:
  • First of all, leave the GPS for at least an hour in unobstructed place, away from high building.
  • As second option, reset your Tomtom by click on “Edit Preferences” > “Next” > “Next” > “Reset Default Values”.
  • If it still does not work, reboot the TomTom by holding the On/Off button for at least 16 seconds.
  • Update the device by synchronizing same with your PC.
