Offset of sound and image of a video file (Divx)

The shifting of sound and image of Divx, mkv or other files , may be due to the following factors:
  • Computer / DivX not efficient enough. Try to test the file on a more powerful PC
  • Codecs and video / audio or obsolete. It is advisable to obtain the latest versions of codecs.
  • Video player inefficient. Download VLC software (natively supports many formats):

  • File poorly encoded video. In this case, it is possible to use a tool to resync the sound and image: VirtualDub

In the third case, two scenarios are possible:
  • The sound and video will gradually shift, ie with a value gap between the beginning and the end of the film;
  • The sound and video are constantly shifted, ie that the time to advance or delay keeps a fixed value.

Gradual shifting of sound and video
  • 1. Launch VirtualDub
  • 2. From the File menu, click open video file and select the video file to load
  • 3. In the video menu, select Direct stream copy, and then click Frame Rate. In the window and open, select "Change so video and audio durations match".
  • 4. In the audio menu, select Direct stream copy, then choose Source Audio
  • 5. Click on OK and save the file

Bridging the gap between sound and video
  • 1. Launch VirtualDub
  • 2. From the File menu, click open video file and choose the video file to load
  • 3. In the video menu, select Direct stream copy , and then click Frame Rate.In the window open and ensure that "no change" is checked.
  • 4. In the audio menu, select Direct stream copy, then choose Source Audio and click Interleaving.
  • 5. In case the audio track by Delay, enter a number of milliseconds corresponding to offset (a trial and error will be required.) If the sound is behind the video, think of putting a negative value.
  • 6. Click OK and save the file by clicking on "Save as AVI (AVI record) in the File menu.
