Linksys router: not working, incorrect password error

Linksys router: not working, incorrect password error

If you are unable to connect to your Linksys Wi-Fi router because of an incorrect password, you can use the WEP key to restore your connection. Here we will show you where to find this key number.

To fix "incorrect password" error and connect to your Linksys (WRT54G) Router, type in the WEP "key 1" numbers (not the actual password or passphrase). The actual numbers marked as "Key 1" or "Key2", whichever is relevant, have to be used instead of the password or passphrase.

They are located in the "wireless security" settings.

  • Go to 192.168.1.1.
  • Enter admin for both username and password (the actual one, NOT "key 1" numbers).
  • Go to Wireless/Wireless Security and they should be right there.
  • If Default Transmit Key "1" is marked, use "key 1" numbers, if "2" is marked, use "key 2" numbers, etc.
