Choose an image and optimize it for your professional website
Intro
On the Internet, only three formats are recognized and properly displayed by browsers: JPEG, GIF and PNG. For a better visual rendering, some of these formats are most recommended by the use you want to do (logo, photo, icon) and the characteristics of your image (size, quality, weight).
Choosing a format
- For an image containing the text: PNG
This format provides crystal clear image that does not damage even if you decide to reduce it. Instead, the JPEG format will make a rather slobbery, sometimes fuzzy on the edges because the transition precipitated from one color to another produces a gradient of relatively dirty visible. Side of the IPF, although the image has a good record, too disproportionate weight condemns its use.
- For an image with transparency: PNG
Transparency idefines opacity of the image. This technique offers the possibility to distinguish any other graphical elements in the background. Use PNG for this type of image because it provides a rather good visual. The GIF will give a poor quality as it bears very little transparency effect. Finally, the JPEG format is incompatible with transparency.
- For a logo, an icon, a drawing, chart: PNG or GIF
PNG has a very good image quality. The color restriction imposed by the format did not adversely affect the image. Same comments for the GIF can also be used for this type of image. As for the JPEG, it also transcribes a clean image, although finalized but the size is too large compared to the previous two.
- A photo or image of high quality: JPEG
The JPEG format is definitely preferable. Because of its wide range of colors (16.7 million), it offers both a perfect quality and optimal weight for the web. The GIF is not acceptable as it will significantly degrade the image quality. PNG gives an image of good quality, however its size will be too heavy to consider inserting a web page.
Only GIF supports animated images.
